Born At The Track

QuicShine99 started in 1993 with a local Alabama race car driver and a chemical engineer. They wanted a fast-acting product that could take rubber and track debris off a race car without damaging the surface underneath.

It took 99 attempts to get the speed, shine and cleaning performance they were after. The 99th version is the one that went in the can, and it gave the product its name.

The early brochure called it a waterless wash, wax and protectant. Printed along the bottom of the can: the magic is in the can.

A Car Of Its Own

The brand put its own car on track: a black and yellow No. 99 with QuicShine 99 across the hood, and a crew in yellow team shirts who were rarely photographed without a can in hand.

The Monte Carlo carried the line from the can across the top of its windshield, in capitals: the magic is in the can.

Pit Road To The Drag Strip

Through the 1990s the QuicShine 99 decal ran with the contingency sponsors on the Winston Cup grid. It is still there on this Hendrick Motorsports No. 5 body panel, in the block between Bowman and 3M. The brochure from the period put it plainly: used and loved by top Winston Cup race teams.

In 1995 it went drag racing. Dean Skuza’s Matco Tools Firebird ran the NHRA Top Fuel Funny Car series with a QuicShine 99 logo across the quarter panel, and that is the car on the Matco Tools hero card for the season.

Pole And Win At Springfield

On August 23, 1998, Ken Schrader drove the No. 38 QuicShine 99 Chevrolet in the Allen Crowe Memorial 100, on the one-mile dirt oval at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield. The car belonged to Ed Rensi’s Team 83.

Schrader put it on the pole, then won the race.

“Schrader will drive the #38 QuicShine 99 Chevrolet for Team 83 owner Ed Rensi as a teammate to ARCA driver Jeff Finley.”

An ARCA Official Product

By 2000, QuicShine99 was listed among ARCA’s official products on the series’ event fact sheets. It is there for the Southern Illinois 100 at the DuQuoin State Fairgrounds on September 3, 2000, and again for the Vehicle Service Contracts 100 at Lowe’s Motor Speedway on May 19, 2001.

At the 2000 awards banquet in Cincinnati, the QuicShine99 Best Appearing Car award went to Michael Kranefuss’s team. Their driver, Shawna Robinson, finished sixth in the championship that year, the first woman to finish in the top ten of the series standings.

Kept Going By Hand

The racing years wound down, but the product never went away. For a long stretch QuicShine 99 was sold the old way: a few cases at a time from a stand at car shows, to people who already knew what was in the can.

Reimagining The Brand

Up until 2022, QuicShine99 remained a grassroots favorite, sold through independent retailers, trade shows and racing events.

That is when the work of reimagining it began. Production was shut down, and the formula was re-engineered with current polymers, so the can still cleans, waxes and protects in one pass while keeping the look people remembered.

Still In The Can

On September 13, 2026, QuicShine99 returned to market.

The can keeps the black, the oval and the line, with one word added: the magic is still in the can.

Around it, one waterless wash and wax has grown into a range of car care, shop and industrial formulas.
